Maelstrømin production 2019/2020
The film unfolds along the raw and windy coastline of western Europe as the peak of winter draws near. An extensive organized network of volunteers are constantly ready to rescue coastal wildlife from oil, plastic and storms in an attempt to amend our industrial impact on the environment. But climate change is causing still more violent weather, and the annual winter storms are coming at them with an unprecedented roar. The encounter between human and nature intensifies as the wild animals struggle against their human surroundings. In the film, this encounter is viewed alternately from the perspective of both human and animal.
